Snack: Yogurt Sundae

This is such a simple but satisfying snack that I’ve been enjoying lately. There are days where I am absolutely in the mood for sweets, but having cookies or chocolate doesn’t satisfy the craving. Oddly enough, this healthy snack has been doing the trick.

It’s super easy, and takes no time to make (or eat). I am the queen of lazy when it comes to food so this is a real necessity for me.

All you need is plain yogurt, honey, nuts like pecans or walnuts, and a bit of spice.

Plain yogurt can be quite tart because without any flavouring there isn’t the sweetness of sugar or sweetener. I prefer a Greek yogurt because the consistency is thicker and creamier. I can’t handle lactose so I was super happy to find a lactose-free brand.

Honey is where you can modulate the amount of sweetness in your snack. This manuka honey has loads of benefits to it. Manuka honey differs from regular honey because it has unique antimicrobial and nutritional properties. Ensure you are looking for a reputable brand that marks its’ authenticity from the Australian Manuka Honey Association. Real honey is a big deal; from the bees, to the maintenance of the flowers, and the measure of healing properties. Check out more info here. I use about a tablespoon because I like the sweetness and the gut benefits from the honey.

A little bit of crunch, fibre, and protein with a sprinkle of nuts. I use whatever I have in my baking cabinet; currently walnuts.

Last but not least, a bit of spice. I have pumpkin pie spice which has cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and allspice in it. A simple dash of cinnamon would work too. Cinnamon is good for you; anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory effects, prebiotic properties, lowers blood sugar… look it up, it’s shocking! So besides giving a nice warm kick to your treat, you’re doing good for your body.
